A Simple, Revolutionary Tool For Self-Knowledge and Relational Harmony

The 3 Human Energies is a personality model that assumes we share the same 3 faculties:

  1. The Intellect for our ability to think. We call this Reflection.
  2. The Heart for our ability to feel. We call this Perception.
  3. The Will for our ability to do. We call this Action.

Through understanding our differences in our relative proportions of these 3 Human Energies, we can:

  • Deepen our self-knowledge: Gain awareness of our unique way of relating to the world and others; our strengths and limitations.
  • Master our interpersonal skills: Improve our ability to communicate effectively with others and build soul-to-soul bonds.
  • Bridge our professional and personal lives: Clarify our distinct gifts and earn a living from embodying our authentic calling.

The 3 Soul Languages

In working with this personality model, we first identify our dominant Soul Language, or our natural way of being and relating, and discover our unconscious strengths and tendencies. Generally, we find ourselves falling into 3 general categories:

  1. Reflection-Dominant: Those who love to understand the meaning of things and relate to others and the world primarily through their intellects.
  2. Perception-Dominant: Those who love to feel a deep connection in relationships and relate to others and the world primarily through their hearts.
  3. Action-Dominant: Those who love to work on exciting projects and relate to others and the world primarily through their wills.

The idea is that we all share these same 3 Human Energies, but we differ in our relative proportions of them. So, by identifying our dominant Soul Language and that of others, we can avoid miscommunications and consciously collaborate together.

The 6 Personality Types

Once we identify our relative proportions of the 3 Human Energies, we then focus on The 6 Personality Types. These are like 6 archetypal characters that we all have within us, but, once again, differ in our relative proportions. They fit into the following 3 categories:

  • Reflection-Dominant Types: The Philosopher & The Scientist.
  • Perception-Dominant Types: The Artist & The Helper.
  • Action-Dominant Types: The Leader & The Manager.

Reflection-Dominant Types

The Scientist

Scientists are especially sensitive to understanding the mechanics of things, the precision of our articulations, and creating mental safety. They love to dive into complexity, make careful observations, and share simple solutions and explanations that are accessible to the whole.

  • Sacred Value: Discernment -> They instinctively push to clarify details and investigate all of our potentially misleading assumptions.
  • Shadow: Coldheartedness -> They struggle to communicate their love to others and are criticized for being emotionally distant.

The Philosopher

Philosophers are especially sensitive to the deep intentions underlying individual and collective human behavior: past, present, and future. They are concerned less with the mechanics of things and more on the fundamental principles of the universe and shared existential questions.

  • Sacred Value: Ethics -> They instinctively push for a higher perspective and seek mental harmony through shared principles.
  • Shadow: Impracticality -> They struggle to confront practical realities of life and are criticized for having their “heads in the clouds”.

Perception-Dominant Types

The Helper

Helpers are especially sensitive to relational dynamics and are naturally compelled to take care of others. They are driven to create inclusive environments that allows everyone to feel deeply seen and heard. Their greatest nightmare is to be on the inflicting or receiving side of emotional violence.

  • Sacred Value: Compassion -> They instinctively push for vulnerability and seek emotional harmony through radical acceptance.
  • Shadow: Overly-Sacrificial -> They struggle to focus on their own dreams, projects, and needs and are criticized for not committing to their own projects.

The Artist

Artists are especially sensitive to the subtle emotions experienced in the depth of our beings. They feel an inexplicable creative impulse to capture this inner-intensity through some form of expression and remind us to shed layers of inauthenticity and embrace the sacred projects we carry within.

  • Sacred Value: Freedom -> They instinctively push to voice uncomfortable truths and seek emotional harmony through radical expression.
  • Shadow: Social Unadaptability-> They struggle to adapt to and be grateful for society and are criticized for being overly selfish.

Action-Dominant Types

The Manager

Managers are especially sensitive to the vital and concrete needs of those around them. They are the caregivers, custodians, and guardians of human organizations that are essential to the well-being of everything and everyone. They are concerned with creating the best living conditions for everyone.

  • Sacred Value: Safety -> They instinctively push to address the practical application of projects and need to ensure that we’re all “on the same page”.
  • Shadow: Fear of Risk -> They struggle to consider projects that require sacrificing hard-earned comforts and are criticized for being “dream-killers”.

The Leader

Leaders are especially sensitive to projects, the evolution of things, and the idea of taking initiative to make things happen. They have a remarkable ability to intuit higher values that unite groups and federate collective action. Those around leaders will feel an impulse and urgency to produce their best work.

  • Sacred Value: Courage -> They instinctively push for excellence in projects and help us overcome our self-imposed limitations.
  • Shadow: Stubbornness -> They struggle to receive feedback on their projects and are criticized for unnecessarily resisting guidance from others.
